Pittman Wires For Williams Grove World Of Outlaws Win Friday

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mechanicsburg –Defending World of Outlaws point champion Daryn Pittman drove Kasey Kahne’s No. 9 to the outlaws victory at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night, wiring the field from the pole for the $8,000 win.

The triumph for Pittman was the 15th of Pittmans overall career at Williams Grove but it was his first in outlaws competition at the oval since May of 2011.

The initial start of the 25-lap sprint main was called back when Steve Buckwalter spun his car.

With Pittman in control followed by Joey Saldana, the next caution of the race unfurled with four laps recorded for a stopped Logan Schuchart on the backstretch.

Pittman chose the inside lane for the ensuing double file restart but the yellow again quickly came back out when action resumed for a three car tangle in the first corner involving Donnie Kreitz, Pat Cannon and Paul McMahan, who had been running sixth.

After the restart the balance of the event did go non-stop with Pittman Leading Saldana, Steve Kinser, Donny Schatz and David Gravel toward the rear of the field as the race neared the halfway point.

But rather than begin taking chances by trying to navigate through the traffic and forsake the inside line that was being favored by virtually the entire field, Pittman was content to back off on his progression toward the backmarkers and instead was content to chase the tail for the final 14 laps.

This strategy did allow his pursuers to creep directly in on his back bumper but with the field locked down to the inside lane there was no chance for anyone else to make any progress for position.

Kinser lost the motor on his mount and dropped out of third with 12 laps to go, elevating those behind him forward one position.

With five laps to go the front six and eight cars were under a blanket racing through the same set of turns at one time headed for the checkered flag.

Pittman took the win with confidence for his fourth World of Outlaws tour victory of the 2014 season.

“I started on the pole three times this year and didn’t win one of them,” said Pittman of his front row luck to date this season.

One of the cars that Pittman watched just ahead of him as part of the rear of the field for the final half of the race was Grove regular Brian Montieth, whom he mentioned in victory lane.

“When you can see Montieth running the top and not passing anybody you know you don’t wanna move off the bottom,” he commented of his strategy to settle in and hug the inside lane.

Saldana rode home second followed by Schatz, Gravel and Stevie Smith.

Sixth through 10th went to Alan Krimes, Justin Barger, Danny Dietrich, Brent Marks and Aaron Ott.

Heats for the 43 car field went to Barger, Gravel, McMahan and Smith.

Pittman won the dash with Austin Hogue taking the C Main and Montieth claiming the B Main.

Fast time was set by Saldana with a lap of 17.765 seconds.
