Mechanicsburg –
Sanctioned by Tony Stewart’s Arctic Cat All Star Circuit Of
Champions Sprint Cars, the 410 sprints will compete in the annual Tommy
Hinnershitz Memorial this Friday, April 28 at Williams Grove Speedway when the
2017 Hoosier Diamond Series kicks off at 7:30 pm.
The 2017 version of the
Tommy will pay $5,000 to win out of a total purse worth over $25,000 for the
30-lap feature with time trials setting the heat and feature starting grids as
the sprints compete in the program that is part of the Lawrence
Chevrolet-sponsored season title chase.
Action will also include the PASS/IMCA 305 sprints.
Adult general admission for the show is $20 with youth ages 13 – 20 admitted for $10. Kids ages 12 and under are always admitted for free at Williams Grove.
The Williams Grove portion of the 50/50 ticket sales this week
will be donated to the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing.
Defending and five-time All Stars
Champion Chad Kemenah of Findlay, OH., will lead the band of travelers into
Williams Grove for the Tommy race.
Formerly known as the Early Bird
Championship, The prestigious Tommy Hinnershitz Memorial took its name in 2007,
now run in honor of the winner of the first ever motor racing main event at
Williams Grove Speedway back in 1939.
An eventual Hall of Fame driver, Hinnershitz of Oley went
on to win the track title that year and again in 1949 and 1952.

the defending winner of the Hinnershitz race.
Other winners of the event since
taking the Hinnershitz name have been: Craig Keel, 2007; Brian Leppo, 2008;
Lance Dewease, 2009; Chad Layton, 2010, 2012; Doug Esh, 2014; and Stevie Smith,
2015.
The event was lost to rain in 2011 and in 2013.
May 5 will see the track host another Yellow Breeches 500
event for the 410 sprint cars along with 358 sprint action.
