5/14/17
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mechanicsburg
– Williams Grove Speedway will present the World of
Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series this Friday and Saturday, May 19 and 20
with time trials getting underway both nights at 7:30 pm.
Gates for each day of
the affair will open at 5 pm with fireworks included in both programs.
Adult general admission tickets are $30 each night with
youth ages 13 – 20 admitted for $15 and ages 12 and under admitted to the
shows for free.
The Williams Grove campground will
open at noon on Wednesday for those wishing to stay the weekend at the
historic oval with spots priced at just $30.
The Williams Grove
Speedway portion of the 50/50 during both weekend shows will be given to a
collection of charities including: Kickin For Kids, Kids Camp Cadet, Kiwanis
and the Bethesda Project.
The May 19 and 20 outlaws stand at Williams Grove will be
the first match up of the season by the circuit against the Pennsylvania
Posse sprint car stars as both groups meet to compete in The Morgan Cup
weekend presented by NAPA/NGK Spark Plugs.
Friday’s show will feature a showdown going 25 laps in
distance, paying $8,000 to the winner.
Saturday’s feature will be 30 laps with $12,000 posted as
the regular winner’s share plus another $5,000 to win the Morgan Cup
presented by NAPA/NGK Spark Plugs, making the Saturday grand total $17,000
for the checkered flag.
The Saturday 2017 Morgan Cup event
honors late Williams Grove owner Morgan Hughes with not only cash but
bragging rights also up for grabs.
The Morgan Cup trophy itself will go
home for another season to the circuit headquarters of whoever wins the
race, either to the home of the PA Posse at the offices of Williams Grove
Speedway or to the corporate home of the World of Outlaws in North Carolina.
Already a winner at the track this season as well as
elsewhere in the region, Lance Dewease of Fayetteville won the only May
outlaws program completed at Williams Grove last season with the other
falling victim to rain.
Still early in the 2017 season, Freddie Rahmer of
Salfordville has established himself atop the Lawrence Chevrolet
Williams Grove Speedway point
standings and he could very easily be a contender for a win during the
upcoming outlaws two-day stand along with Dewease.
Perennial World of Outlaws point champion Donny Schatz of
North Dakota and Connecticut’s David Gravel currently sit atop the outlaws
point standings with Schatz having established himself as the leading
circuit winner to date while actually holding the point lead.
