Something the newer fans may not realize,in his prime Smokey was as fast as anyone around.

One of the the BEST EVER to wheel a sprinter. Smokey was my instant favorite driver when I started going to the Grove some 34 years ago. So many memories.... My thought and prayers go out to Smoke's family and friends. We've lost another legend.... R.I.P. Smokey.

What a loss to everyone,Not a kinder person or a better racer ,I remember riding in a pick-up towing a "hobby car" to Port when I was very young,although I was to little to find my favorite place along the inside guardrails then , I remember Smokey in the Regester car I'm thinkin' and the epic battles with the others at that time I believe is what hooked me on the sport, we are blessed to have had such a person so close to home that everyone could call a friend and a hero.Thoughts and Prayers to his loved ones .........R.I.P. RIP Smokey.... He was one of those racers that I don't remember anyone ever booing or rooting against. A fan favorite, and a link from the past generation of racers to this generation. Always admired the fact that even as older racer, he was a gasser!

Smokey was deff the best at what he did. I'm so glad I got the chance to meet him a watched him wheel around the track! Always was and always will be a great guy. He deff will be missed by many! Rest In Peace Smokey well all meet up another day!

So sad to hear this....I've been restoring one of Smoke's Wasson #5 cars and had hoped someday to meet him in person and get some photo's with the car....at least he got to see a picture of it....condolences to family and friends. RIP Smoke

Smokey was always my favorite driver growing up as a kid at the Springs and he always will be. He always knew how to put a smile on anyone's face, and he always had one on his! It didn't matter whether it was at the track or just out and about, he would always give me and hug and make me laugh!! You will be greatly missed by everyone! Keep wheelin those cars up in Heaven!

Sad news. Without a doubt, one of the nicest people I've ever had the privelage to meet. A true legend who will be missed by all.

I had the honor of racing against him at Clinton County one night i went up and shook his hand and told him how excited i was to race against one of my childhood hero's!! One of my greatest moments as a racecar driver!! Nyle
