Drama Of USAC Silver Crown Series Coming Back To Williams Grove June 18

Mechanicsburg – The national USAC Silver Crown Series will return to Williams Grove Speedway coming up in just two weeks, on Friday, June 18 for a big sprint car show that also includes the Lawrence Chevrolet 410 sprint cars.

Presented by KRS Graphics, the USAC Silver Crown Series will invade the track for the first time since 2019 to compete in a 100-lap main event paying $8,000 to win.

Action gets underway at 7:30 pm.

The June 18 USAC Silver Crown appearance at Williams Grove will be just the second date on the 2021 schedule for the monsters of the United States Auto Club.

The last time that Silver Crown was in action at Williams Grove it was Oklahoma’s Brady Bacon taking his first-ever Silver Crown Series win after what was a late-race bout of drama that saw one leader taken out of the event by his challenger from behind

Illinois driver Chris Windom was the early leader off of the front row as Steve Buckwalter of Royersford motored into second on lap 38 after starting in eighth spot.

Buckwalter followed Windom until a lap 47 restart when he was able to bolt underneath for control.

After a restart with 11 laps to go, Kody Swanson made a bid for the win only to come up short while also jumbling the field in the second turn that saw Brady Bacon zip through the cluster for the second spot while Windom got by Swanson for third.

Windom then jumped past Bacon to apply pressure to the leader.

However Windom proved rather ungraceful in his bid to steal the win with under a lap to go and the result saw Buckwalter spin out, forcing a green-white-checker run to the finish in which Windom ended up popping a tire just after taking the white flag.

Coming into this year’s Williams Grove show, Swanson has won the only event completed on the tour, at Terre Haute, Indiana.

In recent years, both Windom and Swanson have taken Silver Crown events at Williams Grove while other winners at the track dating back to 1980 include Sheldon Kinser and Eddie Leavitt.

Adult general admission for the June 18 racing program is set at $30 with students ages 13-20 admitted for just $10.

Kids ages 12 and under are always admitted for FREE at Williams Grove Speedway.
