Macedo Holds Off Dewease For Outlaws Win At Williams Grove Friday

Mechanicsburg – Carson Macedo held off Lance Dewease to pick up the $10,000 win in Friday night’s World of Outlaws sprint car feature at Williams Grove Speedway.

But Macedo was holding on for dear life at the finish to record his second career oval win.

“I never thought I’d win an outlaw show here,” Macedo said after the checkers.

And Dewease did all he could to see that Macedo wouldn’t but it just wasn’t quite enough.

The pair started the 25-lap main on the front row with Macedo on the inside pin and when action began it was Macedo getting the jump on Dewease as eighth starter Brent Marks bolted up to fourth on just the first lap.

The leaders entered the rear of the field on lap seven and that allowed Dewease to close the gap on Macedo and by lap 10 Macedo had his Jason Johnson No. 41 just under a straightaway ahead.

With Dewease in search of his 100th career oval victory, the pressure was on both drivers at the front and tied up in traffic, Fayetteville’s Dewease took his first shot at Macedo on lap 14.

Dewease drew even with the leader in the second turn, drawing to his inside, but Macedo’s momentum carried him off of the corner with control as Dewease fell back in line.

During the mid-stages, Macedo was able to pull back away from his challenger but as the laps wore down, Dewease again started closing in thanks to some massive blasts into the third turn that helped slice down the advantage.

And by the time that the white flag flashed over the field, Dewease was ready to pull a last turn upset and it nearly worked.

As the pair set their mounts into the third turn, Dewease shot in low once again and blasted across the bottom lane as he tried to dig into the lead.

The move failed however although the pair raced out to the wall before Macedo edged ahead, maintaining his control back to the checkers.

“I honestly thought when we went into three, I thought I was going to get in front of him but when we went in I clipped the berm on the bottom and it shot the nose across the track or I think I could have been in front of him,” Dewease said of his last ditch, final turn shot at taking the win.

Macedo said he was struggling the longer the race wore on.

“At the end I didn’t know where to be,” he said.

“It seemed like the harder I drove, the slower I went.”

Macedo’s margin of victory was .361 seconds.

The Lemoore, California, driver won the season opener at the track in 2020.

Marks got by James McFadden to ride home third with McFadden in fourth and Aaron Reutzel completing the top five.

Sixth through 10th went to Kerry Madsen, David Gravel, Donny Schatz, Sheldon Haudenschild and Kyle Larson.

Heats went to Dewease, Madsen, Macedo and Reutzel with Kraig Kinser taking the B Main.

Macedo won the dash to earn the pole for the feature event.

Fast time was set by Sheldon Haudenschild with a lap of 16.599 seconds.
