Sheldon Haudenschild Scores Round One Of Williams Grove Summer Nationals Friday, Ohio Driver Gets First Career Oval Win

Mechanicsburg –Sheldon Haudenschild picked up night number one of the Champion Racing Oil Summer Nationals for World of Outlaws Sprint Cars at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night.

The Wooster, Ohio, driver pocketed $10,000 for the first victory of his career at the oval where his father Jac also owns two wins.

Haudenschild raced to the pole position by winning the dash before setting out on his victorious journey.

He also set fast time in time trials over the field with a fast lap of 17.104 seconds.

Only one lap of the 25-lap main event was scored before the first caution flag of the race unfurled for a stopped Wayne Johnson in the second corner.

Haudenschild had James McFadden, David Gravel, Donny Schatz and second starter Anthony Macri trailing for the restart.

Macri had fallen swiftly backward on the initial start.

With Brent Marks now up to fifth, the yellow flag turned to red on lap six thanks to a third turn fracas as started by Aaron Reutzel.

Reutzel got out of shape on the fourth turn cushion and turned sideways only to first be clipped by Macri with Macri then getting clouted by TJ Stutts.

Stutts’ machine turned over, forcing the red.

Haudneschild blasted away when action resumed leaving the top five to fight among themselves.

Schatz began pressuring Gravel for second with 11 away before taking the spot on lap 13.

With 10 laps to go, Haudenschild had a half straightaway lead over McFadden as he raced through traffic.

And as Haudenschild set the pace during the late stages, all eyes turned to 17th starter Lance Dewease who was mowing down the front-runners as he circled the inside of the speedway.

With seven laps to go, Dewease was up to fifth before taking Gravel for fourth with 19 complete.

Schatz was next up on Dewease’s hit list and the Fayetteville driver went to work on the North Dakota driver who tried to take his lane away in the turns.

However Schatz couldn’t hold his car down around the oval and Dewease got by for third with two laps to go before quickly running down McFadden for second on the final lap.

Haudenschild ended up claiming the race by a shrinking 2.034-second advantage.

“This is the best I’ve ever felt at this place,” Haudenschild said.

“It feels great winnin’ on these half miles,” he said in reference to taking his first career wins this year at Knoxville Raceway in Iowa and Eldora Speedway in Ohio and now at Williams Grove.

Dewease commented on his masterful run to the front.

“From the ninth row to second at the finish, we’ll take it,” he said.

“We were really good.”

McFadden rode home third followed by Schatz and Marks.

Sixth through 10th went to Gravel, Carson Macedo, Brad Sweet, Logan Schuchart and Danny Dietrich.

Heats went to Schatz, Chad Trout, Stutts and Macri with Wayne Johnson scoring the B Main.

Haudenschild won the dash and set quick time.

The Summer Nationals conclude at Williams Grove on Saturday night with a 30-lap, $20,000 to win main event.
