Lance Dewease Beats All Stars For 7K Dirt Classic Qualifier At Williams Grove, Notches Win 108

Mechanicsburg – Lance Dewease won his second Williams Grove sprint car race in a row on Friday night when he walked off with the All Stars Circuit of Champions Dirt Classic Qualifier, worth $7,000.

The flag to flag victory was the 108th of Dewease’s career at Williams Grove and the ninth of his career in All Stars action at the oval.

The win was also the 88th as a car owner for Don Kreitz Jr., which moves him to within four of tying Al Hamilton for the most victories at the historic oval.

The story of the 30-lap feature seemed to be the crashes that occurred within.

Dewease was only able to log three laps in the main before the red flag appeared for a flipping Justin Peck who vaulted outside of turn four.

The accident happened as Peck raced to the outside of Tyler Courtney while the pair raced for sixth and when Courtney’s car got sideways in the third corner, Peck had nowhere to go but up and over.

The restart saw the red flag again appear, this time for a flipping Rico Abreu as he raced onto the backstretch while running 11th.

Another lap did then get scored before point leader Freddie Rahmer stopped on the frontstretch with a busted front end on his mount.

After Rahmer’s car was removed from the track, Dewease tried to settle into a rhythm with TJ Stutts running second and traffic was just coming into sight for the leader when Bill Balog lost a left rear wheel near the flagstand, sending him into the inside rail.

Following Balog’s bad luck, the last 21 laps of the race went non-stop with Dewease getting into the rear of the field with 12 laps to go.

But the surface was fast and racy with backmarkers proving difficult to bypass.

The leader worked for several laps trying to put Cap Henry a lap down, allowing pursuers Stutts and Brent Marks to close a bit but after finally breaking free of Henry, Dewease was able to get away.

Marks took a shot at Stutts for second and got the spot briefly in the third turn on lap 11 only to see Stutts reclaim the position.

But Marks did finally get by for the spot with two laps to go before finishing 2.319 seconds behind at the checkers.

Stutts rode home third followed by Buddy Kofoid and Danny Dietrich.

Sixth through 10th went to Anthony Macri, Daryn Pittman, Hunter Schuerenberg, Lucas Wolfe and Gio Scelzi.

Heats went to Stutts, Schuerenberg, Marks and Peck with Dewease winning the dash to start on the pole of the feature event.

Steve Buckwalter won the B Main.

Tyler Courtney set fast time over the 33-car field with a lap of 16.409 seconds.

The event was the third for the All Stars at the track in 2022 with local drivers claiming wins in all the races.

With just three races to go in the 2022 point chase at Williams Grove, Danny Dietirch has now taken over second in the standings behind Rahmer and he is within 205 markers of the point lead.
